Essential winter care tips for your Harley
While a cover is your first defense, there are a few more simple steps to keep your Harley in prime condition all winter long.
Keep the battery charged:
A Harley battery can lose charge even in mild winter weather. Use a battery tender or trickle charger to keep it topped up. If you won’t be riding for weeks, disconnect the battery or remove it and store it indoors.
Wash and protect your bike:
Give your Harley a good wash before covering it. Removing dirt and grime prevents long-term damage to paint and chrome. Adding a coat of wax provides extra protection against moisture and dust.
Check and refresh fluids:
Old oil, brake fluid, or coolant can cause issues when your bike sits for long periods. Replacing or topping off fluids now ensures your Harley is ready to fire up smoothly when you’re ready to ride again.
Mind the tires:
Cooler air drops tire pressure, and leaving your Harley parked in one spot can create flat spots. Inflate tires to the recommended PSI and, if possible, use a stand to take pressure off the wheels.
Lubricate moving parts:
Apply lubricant to chains, cables, and pivot points before storage. This helps prevent rust and keeps everything running smoothly when you take your Harley out for the first ride of the season.
